የአግድም ቀለሞች አረንጓዴ- ስራ፣ ልምላሜና እድገት ፤ ቢጫ -የተስፋ፣የፍትህና የእኩልነት ቀይ- ለነጻነትና ለእኩልነት መስፈን የሚደረግ የመስዋዕትነትና የጀግንነት ምልክት ነው፡፡ ይህን የቀለም ህብረት ኢትዮጵያ መጠቀም የጀመረችው ከአድዋ ጦርነት በፊት መሆኑን ታሪክ ይናገራል ፤ በርካታ የአፍሪካ ሀገራት ይህን የቀለም ህብረት መጠቀም የጀመሩት ከዚያን ጊዜ ጀምሮ እንደሆነ ይታወቃል ፤ ኢትዮጵያ የአፍሪካ የነጻነትና የቅኝ አለመገዛት ተምሳሌት የሆነች ሀገር በመሆኗ በርካቶች ይህን ለመጠቀማቸው ቀዳሚ ምክንያን መሆኑን የታሪክ ምሁራን ይናገራሉ፡፡ The green-yellow-red flag appeared in 06 October 1897. It was the flag of Ethiopia that became the basis for the Pan African colors.
